My friend Mario came over and showed me his phone. He wanted to share where he had gone on vacation the year before and suggested that we should all go this year. Within an hour he had most of us within earshot of the conversation, give him a 75 deposit to go. One image and a suggestion of fun started something big for us.
It was 2019 and was before covid moved through making its changes. We had 32 karaoke friends to go with us on a cruise out of Galveston. We even had people drive in and fly from different parts of the country. We had so much fun that whenever we see each other we have to talk about everything that happened and about doing another one.
Big plans were made for 2020 and included even more people. Then covid happened and we’ve been waiting for things to get back to normal or at least better. I’m not sure that life will ever feel the way it did before.
This year the suggestion to go came through a text message that contained something like we should go again. As I write this I am sitting here taking a break from packing to share my thoughts. The process of making plans and getting ready has me feeling normal and that feels really good.
This time we are taking fewer people because the requirements, the cruise line has in place are a little too much for some. We are still going to have fun and make memories even though there are fewer people.
Tomorrow I will be out of pocket with my toes in salty water. I will fully embrace the sun and recharge my battery. I see it as setting off in a sea of tranquility somewhere. Gosh I need this vacation.
I promise to pick up where I left off when I’m back.
Maybe the image you have from reading my words can start some big plans for you. After going through the last few years, you probably need to recharge too.
