Over the years there has been a steady flow of people contacting me to say it was recommended that they take one of my classes or come to my shows. I believe that it is because I am nonjudgmental and open fully to the creative process. I can’t tell you how many times I have been told by someone that they don’t have a creative bone in their body. I’m here to tell you that if you believe we are created in God’s image, then you should also believe as a part of him we are all given the gift of creativity.
Creativity is defined as the use of the imagination or original ideas but especially in the production of an artistic work. The word art can refer to different forms including painting, music, architecture, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, crafts, and other works that combine sounds, words, materials, or forms. Art is the use of skill and imagination in the creation of any aesthetic object that can be perceived and shared with others.
I see art as simple as my mother who created art every day in the form of cleaning and cooking and then shared it with me with a tada when I walked in the door. Not only was everything in order but the pillowcases were ironed. Nobody told her to do this. She did this all on and of her own of her free will.
There is an art to being an employee, a student, a mother, whoever you are be the best you can be. Live your life as art itself. Be creative in how you live, your daily routine, how you think. We are the masters of our lives. How we live can literally be a prayer in of itself. In all we do we give back to the creator by being the best we can be and living to our potential.
In order to be good at anything we do we have to practice over and over again. Show up to do what you feel inspired to do and then get into the flow of doing that work. When you pick up a piping bag to start learning how to do cake decorating or you pick up a pencil to draw or when you start anything of value don’t be so hard on yourself. Give yourself time to play and practice without judgment.
Who am I or even you to judge what your creation is if it’s been inspired through the whispers and stirrings in your soul? We should all encourage each other with love to go down the paths that make us feel alive especially when it’s impacting others in a good way. How do you know that the guy who is off tune in singing is supposed to sing a song to someone that saves his life? Perhaps in order to sing that song on the day he should sing it he has to practice and get good at not caring what others think about him.
All the negative words we have ever heard even directed at other people get into our head and can make us be judgmental of our own work and the work of others. All this does is paralyze us from acting upon that which we were created and destined to be. Words like I am too old, I’m too young, I’m not this and I could never be that stop us. You could look at it like it’s a demon that knows all the good that will come from what we do and wants to stop us. So why allow that to dwell in your head? Kick it out and then go be you! Live your best life and help others along the way
Cathy
